Kathy started her career as a high school science teacher after receiving her bachelor’s in biological sciences education from Illinois State. Soon after she returned to ISU to finish her master’s degree in biological sciences where she completed research in mycology. Kathy continued her education at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, completing her residency in family medicine. Her career continued in emergency medicine for 24 years before she retrained in phlebology. By taking doing so, Kathy was able to open The Vein Specialists, a practice that works with closing varicose veins.
During her time at Illinois State, Kathy stayed involved with her major outside of the classroom by being a part of Sigma Xi, the Biological Sciences Department academic achievement fraternity.
As an alum, Kathy serves on the ISU Foundation Board. Kathy helped to start & participates in the preprofessional mentorship program in the Department of Biological Sciences. Kathy was also named a 2004-2005 College of Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame inductee and Queen of the Red Hot Society in 2017. The Red Hot Society promotes women's athletics.
