As a student at Illinois State University, Diane was involved in several areas of campus life. She began as a copy editor for the Daily Vidette, gaining experience in writing and editing. She joined Chi Omega and served as chapter president her junior year. She also held a leadership role on the ISU Panhellenic Council.
In her senior year, Diane worked as the Greek relations coordinator in the Office of Student Life. In that position, she advised the Panhellenic and Interfraternity Councils, worked with GAMMA on student safety initiatives, and supported collaboration among Greek-letter organizations including the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
After graduating, Diane returned to ISU to work in the Office of Student Life and became the university’s first campus safety director. She partnered with the President’s Office, Student Affairs, and the Town of Normal on campus safety initiatives.
She later worked in K–12 education while maintaining strong ties with ISU, particularly the College of Education. She served on accreditation and search committees, dissertation panels, and guest lectured in undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. As assistant superintendent for District 87 and the Regional Office of Education #17, she worked with ISU faculty on research and programming and helped create a paid student teaching model during the COVID-19 pandemic. Diane adds that one of the most meaningful initiatives of her career began in 1994 with a partnership with State Farm, District 87, and Illinois Wesleyan in launching the Sports and Scholars Program. The program supported high school students from diverse backgrounds through four years of summer programming focused on academic success and college readiness.
She also served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning and the Department of Educational Administration and Foundations. She advised Chi Omega and Alpha Tau Omega and served on ISU’s Greek Committee. Diane also co-founded the History Symposium with ISU faculty and the McLean County Museum of History, which continues to serve pre-service and practicing history teachers across Central Illinois.
She serves on the awards, board development, and Homecoming committees.
