As a student at Illinois State University, Richard was deeply engaged in leadership and service. He served as secretary of governmental relations for the Student Government Association and was involved with College Democrats, Student Alumni Council, and Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity
Richard has continued his commitment to the university through service with the Black Colleagues Association. He currently serves as recording secretary and previously co-chaired the communications committee.
Richard is senior advisor to Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs, representing the Treasurer’s Office in meetings and events across the state, particularly in Cook County and Chicago. He formerly served as policy advisor and director of external affairs for State Representative Kimberly du Buclet, focusing on budget and higher education policy while building strong community engagement. He is also a member of the Master of Public Administration Advisory Council at Governors State University, where he earned his MPA in 2021.
He currently serves on the Alumni Association board of directors' Homecoming, scholarship, and RED committees.
